So heat energy is only expended when water is being used, making the tankless system much more efficient. Another advantage of the tankless water heating system is that it does not have a large tank that holds the water – hence the name “tankless water heater.” To a homeowner this means that the supply of available hot water never ends. Also because they lack a tank, tankless water heaters are more compact and take up less room. This means that they can be installed in smaller spaces like cabinets or on walls. Although they do tend to cost a lot more to purchase and install, tankless water heaters tend to last approximately 5 to 10 years longer than regular tank systems. There is also no potential for a flood caused by a ruptured tank, because as you would guess – there is no tank. The heat exchanging system used to heat the water in a tankless system can be either electric or gas powered. If electric coils are used, then there are no greenhouse gases emitted. This makes the water heating process much more environmentally friendly.
